RugiR
Role — Co-founder, Art Director
Timeline — 2.5 years, 18 editions
Skills — Brand, motion, art direction, operations
Context
Brussels already had a strong electronic scene, tight and well-established. We started Rugir from nothing: no room, no budget, no name anyone recognized. A real founding team, out to earn a place in a saturated scene.
Role
Co-founder and Art Director. I owned the identity, the motion and the digital communication, and ran the operational side: venue scouting, budgets, booking, artist management. Alongside Jules Bouit (Space Designer), Maliman (Sound Engineer), Victor Guyommard (Graphic Designer).
Task
Built a brand identity from scratch in a scene that ignored newcomers
Designed a logo-system and scenography, redrawn for every event
Ran the motion and digital communication
Handled operations: venues, budgets, bookings, artists
Result
18 editions over 2.5 years. From 0 to 1,165 followers, 50 to 500 people per event, and 300 to ~3,000 euros profit per event. Grown almost entirely by word of mouth.

The challenge
Brussels' electronic scene was tight and regulars-only. We had none of it: no room, no budget, no name. We had to earn a place.

The name became a system
Starting small was a weakness, so we turned it into one. The name became a system: Rugir, and its mark, the R, redrawn for every event while staying recognizable. One rule, endless variations. A single identity, built to flex infinitely and survive on almost nothing.

Built to be felt before the night began
Motion carried the anticipation. Teasers ahead of every date built the expectation before the doors opened. Ambient projection visuals ran full across the venue during the night. Each artist announcement was dressed in the edition's specific art direction. One system, one skin, per event.
The identity became the room
The identity didn't stop at the poster. Video projections ran throughout the venue, the same visual language looping across the walls and turning the room itself into a canvas for the brand. Anyone who pulled out their phone filmed Rugir, spreading it organically.

Growth
Rugir grew from a bet into a structure. First night: 50 people in a borrowed room, on unpaid DJs and a promise. By the 18th: bigger venues, paid artists, a treasury. Some editions pulled 800 to 1000+ on Facebook, demand outran the room. Grown through word of mouth, from nothing.
